To inform the public how digital cultural objects published on Europeana can be used, we ask data providers to assign each digital object a rights statement from a number of options. 

Rights statements indicate the extent to which copyright exists in the object and communicate conditions and restrictions on reuse to Europeana users, so it is important that they accurately reflect the copyright status of the provided object and granted permissions. They use standardised and user-friendly language and are easy to understand.
