By developing a shared language about impact, we believe that we can not only show our value, but speed up innovation and increase our relevance to society.

"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts"

William Bruce Cameron

The Impact Playbook has been developed with the expertise of many professionals from across Europe since 2015, building on conversations that started in 2012. The Playbook is based around academic ideas digested and tested to help you apply them in a way that works for you. It has been developed iteratively, released stage by stage, beginning with Phase one in 2017. Phase four, the last phase, was published in 2022. Revisions to the content have been published in this resource.

We try to keep the language we use simple and understandable and we try to set out each step and answer any questions you might have in the process. We always welcome feedback, so please do share with us any ideas on how we can make it more useful for you! Email us at impact@europeana.eu.

Five principles of the Europeana Impact Framework

We have developed the Europeana Impact Framework, which sets out how we use and measure impact in Europeana, according to five principles. Our work on impact must be:

  1. Stakeholder-focussed

  2. Participatory and inclusive

  3. Reflective and critical

  4. Efficient and effective

  5. Useful and proactive
