Positive user feedback and stories

User quotes

  • “I will just use this beautiful image on my phone. Thank you.”

  • “I love to receive the Europeana newsletter! It’s really nice to see…a quick idea of the direction of the public interest topic and …possible path through the enormous amount of images we have collected during centuries….It’s a quick look at the direction of the interest of the public, interest of the research, interest of the cultural politics/decision…I’m always surprised things I don’t know: new archives, people collecting strange things, recently I saw from Romania ‘women at work’ on March 8 (for International Women’s Day) - they were gorgeous, beautiful! It’s a pleasure.”

    • (Cecilia, admin at an arts university in Italy)

  • “Look at all of these items I have not seen before! Beautiful, just beautiful!”

    • (Maddalena, researcher and educator (when using the advanced search for the first time))

Fun stories about users

  • Maddalena is a researcher and educator who, over the course of a couple years, has amassed over 2,000 items in galleries on http://Europeana.eu . Her research focus is paintings which contain food items, such as eggs or fruit. She searches in several different languages and uses boolean operators to find what she’s looking for. She presents the results of her searches to students in primary and secondary schools, and even teaches the secondary school students how to conduct searches on http://Europeana.eu using such advanced methods. Maddalena greatly inspired our design of the advanced search.

  • Rhonda uses our Newspapers collection to find out about the lives of members of her family who were ship captains, and whose voyages covered the globe. “The nice thing about ships is they’re always in the newspaper!” One particularly interesting member of her family was a ship captain who survived multiple shipwrecks, all of which can be found in various newspapers from the time (1800's). Her favourite newspapers in our collections are from the Hamburg State Library.
